Undergraduate Program

Think Like an Engineer, Act as a World Citizen

Our undergraduate bioengineering program, among the top 10 in the country,  is a springboard for discovery in engineering, medicine, business, and the arts and sciences.  We are an Ivy League engineering school that offers two undergraduate bioengineering degree options: a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) in Bioengineering and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Biomedical Science. This choice in degree program provides students with the flexibility needed to tailor their education to their personal goals.

Education and Research Both Here and Abroad

You can work in a world-famous biomedical research lab, design a new medical device, build a startup company, become fluent in Chinese, choose premedical courses, pursue a dual major in a wide range of disciplines, or obtain a minor in nanotechnology or engineering entrepreneurship.

You can start becoming a citizen of the world as a freshman by helping to bring clean water to communities in Latin America, by traveling to Hong Kong and China with Penn’s Global Biomedical Research Program, or by working in science outreach programs with Philadelphia middle and high school students.

Post Undergraduate Opportunities

Our graduates have access to opportunities in a wide array of engineering and scientific disciplines. Whatever you decide to do when you leave Penn, whether it be to conduct research, serve in the Peace Corps, attend graduate or medical school, or invent new technologies, you will bring with you the confidence, knowledge, and partnerships you have gained at Penn to help change people’s lives. You will diagnose, treat, prevent, and cure disease in ways unimagined today, improving medicine, healthcare delivery, and societies across the world.
